Those Cold Days Ahead . . .
It’s been four long years since the memorable Winter Storm Uri swept through our region. Since that time, we’ve diligently made numerous changes and steadily progressed on our path forward. At this moment, I find myself feeling a bit on edge with the impending Arctic blast that some forecasters are predicting. While some experts ominously warn of “a repeat of 2021,” others caution that it is “too far out to tell”. Naturally, I am quite worried about the future of our olive trees and the new peach trees, plum trees, grape vines, blackberries, and figs. Fortunately, I have zero concerns about our new farm-fresh flower program, as those seeds have not been planted yet. I am trying my best not to “freak out,” and I continually ask myself what valuable lessons we learned from the devastating cold weather event of 2021. One significant lesson has been the art of surrender. This is the important mindset I am reminding myself of today as I write - the ability to let go of worries, turn them over to the universe, and let the storm come, whatever it may bring. In the meantime, I’ll prepare, protect, and be ready for the sunny days ahead!
